Instagram is the 3rd biggest traffic source online. Millions of people use Instagram daily for entertainment purposes and to see what other artists, producers and record labels are posting. Learn the right Instagram promotion strategies to build your brand and take your career to the next level.
Social media has changed the way artists can earn money from their music. Instagram is a huge outlet. Some of our clients make thousands of dollars monthly by posting content. They get sponsored by bigger companies, and the audience is so large, it’s a great way to build your brand.
Here at Viewmaniac.com we help hundreds of musicians per month build their brand and drive in organic attention on Instagram. We offer exclusive targeting campaigns that allow us to craft a campaign to reach new fans and followers. We will lay out some important notes that you should be applying to your Instagram promotion to ensure healthy growth
If you already have an Instagram account set up but you feel it is stagnant and you need some help driving in attention, we can help. Below we lay out the 5 main tips and tricks that any Instagram user should be focused on when building a brand.
1) Post at least 2-3 times daily.
Treat your social media like a job because it is. If you feel that posting one time a day or less will get you anywhere, you are mistaken. We work under some of the biggest labels worldwide and in their contractual agreements they make the artist post 4-5 times a day when they start building their brand. This goes to show you how important consistency is in order to get attention. Post at least once in the morning, afternoon and evening to make sure you hit all your followers and fans around the globe.
2) Content Creation
Creating and generating new content daily is KING. This is what will separate you from the rest. A big portion of indie artists feel like the music alone will build a brand and make them famous. It’s not the same game it was ten years ago. This is the information age and the internet gives people info in seconds and opens the doors to many things. In order for you to get people’s attention you must get good with creating content. It’s not just taking a picture and posting it but getting creative within your content. Invest in the right cameras, equipment etc. Give your followers content and put yourself in their shoes. Ask yourself this question “WHAT WOULD MAKE ME FOLLOW ME?”
Post videos, interviews, studio sessions, behind the scenes, etc. Study major artists in your genre to get a better understanding of the type of content that you can post.
Don’t look hashtags over. Hashtags are a gateway to gaining targeted attention just by adding a niche tag in your post. This will automatically show up for other users that are using the same tag and add to your Instagram promotion. Always think smart and don’t just add hashtags to add them. If you’re an artist and are looking for people to listen to your music, go to the search section and type a few tags to see what people are searching for. This will tell you the search volume in each hash tag and the popularity.
If you’re just starting out on Instagram, we suggest using 5-10 hashtags per post to gain some momentum on your account.
This is literally the #1 thing you will ever need to know when it comes to building your brand. TRANSPARENCY. You can do everything else right, but if you leave this out it won’t work. Transparency is an art. Some people are born with it while others need to work on it. It is understanding how to be yourself at all times and be omnipresent. If you want to build a brand you need to be realistic with yourself and understand that you’re in the public eye. You need to show your face, you need to be transparent to your followers. The more transparent you are, the faster you will weed through the people that don’t like you and get to all the people that do.
If you hide behind your brand, nobody will ever trust it. They won’t follow and marketing will not be to your benefit.
You want to show your face always and speak to your followers so they know EXACTLY who is creating and generating the content on your page. This will create clarity and allow people to get to know the real you.
Once again put yourself in their shoes and ask yourself “WOULD I FOLLOW ME IF I WASN’T TRANSPARENT?”
Or try to name a major successful artist that isn’t transparent. You can’t.
5) Serve your followers
Last, but not least you want to make sure you serve your fans, followers and haters. You’re in the music business. It’s a job and some things you will like and others you won’t. In our experience we see a lot of musicians with the wrong attitude towards social media. They have a mindset that whatever they post should be praised and the music alone will make them famous. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!
You have to learn to get in the right habits. Building a music career is like building a business. Your fans and followers are your customers. Without them, you have nothing. You have to serve them and understand how you can help them. If your content helps or makes people feel good each day, the faster your brand will grow.
