Lil Baby Leaps to No. 1 on Emerging Artists Chart
Lil Baby is the top emerging act in the U.S. for the first time. The Atlanta-based rapper has leaped from number 18 to number 1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart, dated May 26th. The Emerging Artists chart ranks the most popular developing artists of the week. The method used for ranking is the same formula as the all-encompassing Billboard Artist 100 ranking which measures popularity across multiple Billboard charts. However, the Emerging Artists chart excludes acts that have notched a top 25 entry on the Hot 100 or Billboard 200 before.
Lil Baby, real name Dominique Jones, is a 23-year-old emerging artist. He’s topping the chart on the strength of his new single, “Yes Indeed”. Most noteworthy, this success can be attributed to the song’s collaboration with Drake. The song debuts at number 29 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and number 49 on the Hot 100. Yes Indeed arrives with 13.6 million U.S. streams and 8,000 downloads sold in the tracking week. Statistics are tracked by Nielsen Music which prompts a number 30 entry on the Streaming Songs chart. This song is Lil Baby’s second entry on the Hot 100, following “My Dawg,” which reached number 71 in January. In addition, Lil Baby and his debut LP, Hard Than Ever, is slated to debut in the top five of next week’s Billboard 200.
Lil Baby Dethrones Bad Wolves
Lil Baby has dethroned Bad Wolves, who graduate from the Emerging Artists chart as their debut LP Disobey arrives at number 23 on the Billboard 200 with 19,000 equivalent album units.
Additionally, Juice WRLD jumps from 34 to number 3 on the Emerging Artists chart. They have entered the top 10 for the first time, as the rapper debuts his first two tracks on the Hot 100. Lucid Dreams at number 75 and All Girls Are The Same at number 92. Other artists in the top five are Lauv, Jordan Davis, and Morgan Wallen.
