Maroon 5 could unseat “In My Feelings”
Maroon 5 and their recent record “Girls Like You”, featuring Cardi B might finally take the crown on next week’s Billboard Hot 100. The chart is dated September 29th shows that the song has narrowly taken the top spot from Drake’s “In My Feelings”. Most noteworthy, Drake has dominated the chart and this position for the past 10 weeks. According to Nielsen Music, the data shows “Girls Like You”, which has ranked at its number 2 Hot 100 high for six straight weeks has recorded over 120 million in radio audience. This is based on the tracking week ending September 23rd. Additionally, the song has picked up another 25 million U.S. streams and 20,000 downloads sold.
Worth noting, Drake’s “Feelings” could still wrap the week with over 90 million in airplay reach and 38 million U.S. streams. In addition to the streams, the Canadian rapper will see 18,000 sold for the song itself. Based on the projections, the trending totals place Maroon 5 slight ahead of Drake in the race for number 1 on the Hot 100.
If “Girls Like You” finds itself in the number 1 spot, it would end the streak of rap songs ruling the Hot 100 for a record 34 consecutive weeks. Additionally, Maroon 5 would earn its fourth number 1 and first since “One More Night” in 2012. Cardi B would receive her third leader following her smash singles “Bodak Yellow” and “I Like It”. The last pop song to top the Hot 100 was Camila Cabello’s “Havana” back on January 27th.
Looking Beyond Maroon 5: Other Hot 100 Highlights
Although not previously mentioned, with all of the buzz in the past few weeks it would be silly not to mention Eminem. “Killshot” is aiming for a debut in the Hot 100’s top 10. The song has been driven mostly by over 40 million first-week U.S. streams. Em has gotten off to a record start on YouTube and the video hit 100 million views as of Saturday, September 22nd. This would be Eminem’s 20th Hot 100 top, and third in a row in a three-week span following “Lucky You” and “The Ringer”.
