Katy Perry Hits Number 1 With “Cozy Little Christmas”
Katy Perry reaches the top of Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart, dated Dec. 29th with her song “Cozy Little Christmas”. The song rises from number 2 to 1. The original song, an Amazon exclusive promoted by Capital Records to radio becomes the 23rd Adult Contemporary holiday leader since 2000. It was around that era that a majority of stations in the format began playing seasonal songs 24/7 throughout the holidays. “Cozy” is the second seasonal number 1 this year after John Legend and Esperanza Spalding’s cover of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. Most noteworthy, the song dips to number 2 after three weeks in the top spot. Additionally, Katy Perry achieved her third adult contemporary number 1, following “Roar” and “Firework”.
Katy Perry Isn’t the Only One Making Christmas Noise
In other news, Katy Perry is not the only one topping charts with Christmas music. Mariah Carey’s 24-year-old Christmas classic, “All I Want for Christmas Is You”, set a new one-day streaming record on Spotify. On Christmas Eve, December 24th, chart data reported the song was played 10.8 million times. The song bested the record set by slain-rapper XXXTentacion, who logged 10.4 million streams with “SAD!” a day after he passed in June. However, Spotify wouldn’t comment on the news when reached by The Associated Press. Mariah called the new, “such an amazing Christmas gift” in an Instagram post on Christmas day. Most noteworthy, every holiday season “All I want for Christmas Is You” climbs the Billboard charts as the popularity resurfaces. However, this year the song reached a new peak when it jumped to number six on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. Additionally, Carey’s 1994 Merry Christmas album is spending its fourth week at number 1 on the R&B charts.
