Twenty One Pilots Tie Record for Most Consecutive Rock airplay Top 10s
Some may classify the duo as pop, however Twenty One Pilots have been tearing up the Rock Airplay charts. In fact, the group has just joined Shinedown as the only acts to land nine consecutive top 10s on the specific chart. Their latest release, “The Hype”, from the 2018 album Trench has jumped from 12 to 10 on the chart dated September 14th. This is up 6% to an audience of over 5 million, according to Nielsen Music.
Most noteworthy, each of the band’s singles released have reached Rock Airplay and has hit the top 10. Dating back to “Tear in My Heart” which landed at number 2 in July 2015. Especially relevant, “Stressed Out”, “Heathens”, and “Jumpsuit” have all hit number 1 at different times. The number ones span from two weeks up to nine weeks. Additionally, the band Shinedown holds the Rock Airplay record for the most total top 10s, dating back to the launch of the chart in 2009. The group has landed a total of 12 and most recently peaked at number 7 in July with “Monsters”. Twenty One Pilots streak consists of nine is of all of their top 10s.
Bands with 7 or more Rock Airplay Top 10s are Shinedown, Cage the Elephant, Foo Fighters, Muse, The Black Keys, Imagine Dragons, Twenty One Pilots, Bastille, Disturbed, Mumford & Sons, and Rise Against. Focusing back on the Pilots, “The Hype” also makes a slight jump on Alternative Songs airplay from 9 to 8. Especially relevant, this is the group’s 11th top 10 on this chart since their first in June of 2013. The band’s latest hit is the fourth single from “Trench” which debuted on top of the Top Rock Albums. Additionally, the album hit number 2 on the Billboard 200 back in October, 2018. Accruing over 800,000 units to date, the group is making some noise.
