DaBaby Lands First Number 1 With Kirk
DaBaby has landed his first number 1 on the Billboard 200 charts as his album, Kirk, comes in at the top. This album is his second studio effort and starts off with 146,000 equivalent album units earned, according to Nielsen Music. Most noteworthy, of that sum, only 8,000 were in actual album sales. However, being mostly powered by streaming activity, Kirk, flies up the charts. The set was released on September 27th via SouthCoast and Interscope Records.
Especially relevant, The Billboard 200 ranks the most popular albums of the week in the United States using multi-metric consumption information. This is measured in equivalent album units. Additionally, units are made up of a few different means. Naturally, there are traditional album sales. In addition to that, track equivalent albums and streaming equivalent albums make up the rest.
DaBaby gets his new album’s name from his last name, his actual name is Jonathan Kirk. This set follows his previous studio album, Baby on Baby, which peaked at number 7 back in June of this year. The previous album launched Jonathan’s breakthrough single “Suge” which gave him his first top 10 hit on the all-genre Hot 100 songs chart. Additionally, Baby on Baby has earned 719,000 equivalent album units, and boasts over 1 billion on-demand audio streams for its songs.
As previously noted, Kirk starts with 145,000 equivalent album units, 8,000 in album sales, 2,000 in track equivalent album units, and 136,000 in streaming equivalent album units. The streaming units rack up to a massive 181.7 million on-demand audio streams for the 13-song album during its first week. This is the fifth largest streaming debut week for an album in 2019.
Additionally, it should be noted that DaBaby hasn’t stopped just on the album charts. The Charlotte rapper has found himself on top of the Hot 100 Songwriters chart for this week as well.
