Ella Mai Sits atop Adult R&B Songs Chart
Ella Mai conquers another radio format with her song “Boo’d Up” as it rises from 2 to 1 to top the Adult R&B Songs airplay chart. Most noteworthy, this is the first time the song has found itself on top of the chart. The tune leads the July 14-dated list due to a 27 percent surge in plays in the week ending July 8th. Ella Mai is the first artist to reach the top with her debut chart entry since Cardi B did it with her collaboration on “Finesse”. Cardi and Bruno Mars led for three weeks in April and May. “Boo’d Up” is the first debut entry to hit number 1 since SZA’s “Love Galore” featuring Travis Scott.
Multiple radio formats have embraced Ella Mai and her song. Additionally, the track holds at its number 2 peak for a sixth consecutive week on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop and jumps from 7 to 5 to a new peak on Rhythmic Songs. This is good for a 7 percent boost in plays for the week. However, beyond its expected rhythmic base, top 40 pop radio also shows positive signs for “Boo’d Up”. The record nears the threshold of the Pop Songs airplay chart, showing a 30 percent gain in plays in the week.
The single’s success also presents good news for Ella Mai and her EP, Ready. The album holds at its number 4 peak on the Top R&B Albums chart for a second week. In addition, it also reaches a new peak on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums jumping from 27 to 18. Most noteworthy, the EP also crosses into the top 40 of the all-genre Billboard 200, jumping from 50 to 39.
Ella Mai is certainly a rising R&B star and an artist to watch. Her breakthrough into the top 40 is quite intriguing and we will be on the lookout for her future releases.
