Juice WRLD Lands First Number 1 Album with ‘Death Race for Love’

Juice WRLD scores his first number 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart. The album, ‘Death Race for Love’ debuts on top of the list. The album which was released on March 8th via Interscope Records. Additionally, earned 165,000 equivalent album units in its first week according to Nielsen Music. Most noteworthy, 43,000 units were from traditional album sales. Furthermore, Billboard ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption. These are measured in equivalent album units and are comprised of traditional album sales, track equivalent albums, and streaming equivalent albums.

Especially relevant, Juice WRLD previously visited the top 10 with a pair of albums back in 2018. WRLD on Drugs which was a collaborative album with Future, debuted and peaked at number 2 in November 2018. Additionally, Juice WRLD’s debut studio album, Goodbye & Good Riddance, peaked at number 8 back in August. Worth mentioning, Death Race for Love scores the biggest week overall, and the largest streaming week for an R&B/Hip-Hop album in 2019. Of the albums 165K equivalent album units, 120K were strictly streaming equivalent. This translates to over 176 million on-demand audio streams for the songs on the album.

Looking back throughout the year it is worth noting that the last R&B/Hip-Hop album to score a larger week in both units and streams was Meek Mill with Championships. That album launched at number 1 on December 15th with 229,000 units earned and over 235 million on-demand audio streams. Furthermore, Death Race for Love lands the second-biggest streaming week of 2019 for any album. Juice WRLD only trails the debut week of Ariana Grande’s Thank U, Next. Ariana debuted with 307 million on-demand audio streams in February. It will certainly be interesting to see how the album holds up throughout the year against other major releases.
