Eminem Set to Debut at Number 1 with ‘Music to Be Murdered By’
Marshall Mathers otherwise known as Eminem is back with a new album. However, it should be to no one’s surprise that the album is set to chart for the Detroit MC’s 10th number 1 album. Titled “Music to Be Murdered By”, the 20-track set is on course for the top with 280,000 equivalent album units earned in its first week. Additionally, this album was released as a surprise on January 17th via Shady/Aftermath/Interscope Records and is Em’s first album since his last surprise album, Kamikaze. That album was released in August 2018 and hit the top spot as well.
Especially relevant, the Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week and uses multi-metric consumption for data. This data is comprised of traditional album sales, streaming equivalent albums, and track equivalent albums. Most noteworthy, if Slim does in fact launch at number 1, it will be his 10th straight debut at the peak. With almost a perfect run throughout his career, the only album to not have debuted at number 1 was the Slim Shady LP which debuted and peaked at number 2. However, in regard to most number 1 albums overall, Eminem will become the sixth artist all time with at least 10. Joining the ranks of The Beatles, Jay-Z, Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand, and Elvis Presley – Marshall has earned another bragging right in his career.
With a competitive week for debuts, Slim was up against Halsey’s album ‘Manic’ and Mac Millers posthumous release Circles. It is expected that Halsey will land in the number 2 spot with roughly 190,000 or so equivalent albums. Mac is expected to start with around 180,000 units or more for number 3. Keep an eye on the charts to see how the artists and albums shuffle and compete for the top spot through the next few weeks.
