Rappers looking to gain exposure through unique venues may have a new opportunity on the horizon. Ramping up the promotion for its 2018 BET Experience & Awards, BET Networks partnered with YouTube. This partnership will bring back the Freestyle Friday hottest MC contest. Beginning today, Friday, March 16th, rap contenders can qualify for entry by subscribing to the BET Networks YouTube Channel. After you have subscribed, post a video of yourself rapping. This can be a great way to get in some YouTube marketing for your brand.
There are four major cities that will host livestream face-offs at YouTube studios in each locale. These cities are, New York, Toronto, London, and Los Angeles. Sirius XM radio host Torae will host the New York kickoff on March 30th. Other hosts and details will be announced in the coming weeks for the remaining shows. Catching the eyes of the judges and gaining as much exposure may push you further in the competition. Be sure to be wise with your YouTube marketing techniques to do so.
Freestyle Friday 2018: How it Works
Regarding the new Freestyle Friday format, contestants will choose from three beats at random to show off their lyrical abilities. Each rapper will have 60 seconds or less. Finalists from each city will be selected by notable radio DJs from across the country via digital ballots. The four winning finalists will compete in a rap battle in front of a panel of celebrity judges. Most noteworthy this will take place on the Fan Fest main stage during the BET Experience in Los Angeles.
The winner of the Freestyle Friday competition will perform as the opening act for the BET Experience’s annual hip-hop show at Staples Center in June. This year’s BET Experience takes place June 21st to the 24th at L.A. Live. All of the live stream content will be featured in a 30 minute companion series on BET Networks YouTube Channel.
