BTS Makes History as a Group on Charts
BTS, the K-Pop super group is dominating the Billboard charts in a major way. They have officially become the first group to lead the Billboard 200, Hot 100, and Artist 100 chart simultaneously. With 242,000 units moved for their album, they were able to reach the top. This data is tracked and reported by Nielsen Music. However, beyond the success of the album that has debuted at number 1, the group’s single is doing great. “Life Goes On” debuts from the album as well and hits the top spot on the Hot 100. This is the third number 1 from the group. Most noteworthy, the group has now spent 13 weeks on top of the Artist 100 after extending its current record. BTS have passed the likes of Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran for sixth most weeks spent on top. However, it should be noted that this chart has only existed since 2014.
As previously mentioned, BTS made history as the first group to reach the top simultaneously on all three charts. However, it should be noted that they are not the first acts to do so. Since the chart’s conception, Drake, Taylor Swift, Adele, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, Camila Cabello, and Kendrick Lamar have all reached this feat. Especially relevant, this is still bragging right worthy for the K-pop group.
It seems that whenever BTS release a new album or video their fans power them to the top. It shows the impact and influence that K-pop has on American culture. There have been other popular K-pop groups making some noise on the scene, but none have been able to dominate in the fashion of BTS. Most noteworthy, it will be interesting to see how the group continues to chart in the future. Especially considering that they just released a new album and are expected to go on a streak. hairy woman
