Drake Sparks 3 Million Tweets in 24 Hours with Scorpion
It’s safe to say that most people probably have an opinion about Drake or his new album, Scorpion. According to Twitter, they are vocalizing those opinions on the social platform. Twitter reports that the rapper has been tweeted about more than 3 million times. The double-disc album has generated substantial buzz due to recent controversies regarding his secret child and a Michael Jackson feature. Most noteworthy, there have been three times more tweets about the second half of the album, Side B. Additionally, Side B features soul-bearing tracks and the Michael Jackson-assisted “Don’t Matter to Me”.
Drake Certified as New Top Digital Singles Artist
Already a superstar in his own right, Drake has scored yet another milestone. He is now RIAA’s new top certified digital singles artist. The milestone comes to light due to having moved 142 million digital singles to date. Especially relevant, one equivalent song unit is equal to one digital song sale or 150 on-demand streams. Additionally, the internet is abuzz and in a frenzy over Friday’s release of Drake’s highly anticipated double-disc album, Scorpion. The album is already certified platinum as Drake has also landed his record-extending 64th top 10 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart with “I’m Upset”.
In the next few weeks it should be interesting to see how Billboard’s new algorithm effects the numbers for Scorpion. In early May, Billboard finalized its new weighting system to calculate the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 album charts. Recent changes have been implemented starting today, June 29th, making Drake’s new album one of the first test cases for the revamped method. The Billboard 200 and Hot 100 are broken down into different weighted tiers which pull data from different streaming services. Paid subscription services hold more weight than free ad-supported services.
