Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber are Poised for Number 2 Debut on Hot 100

Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber have just released a new collaboration. Perhaps the new single, “I Don’t Care”, could be song of the summer. Furthermore, based on the current data available, the collaboration is headed for a number 2 debut on Billboard’s Hot 100.  However, the song would have landed at first if it weren’t for Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’s “Old Tow Road”.

The Hot 100 blends all-genre United States streaming, digital sales, and radio airplay data. Most noteworthy, “I Don’t Care” is expected to arrive on the chart with more than 40 million in airplay audience, 30 million U.S. streams and 60,000 downloads sold. Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber released the song at midnight on Friday, May 10^th. This information has been provided by Nielsen Music and is based on industry projections.

Ed Sheeran is looking for his seventh Hot 100 top 10 and Justin will add his 15^th. Although this recent collaboration marks the first time the 2 pop stars are co-billed as artists, it isn’t the first time they have worked together. Ed Sheeran co-wrote two top 10s for Bieber. “Love Yourself” was number 1 for two weeks in February 2016 and “Cold Water” from Major Lazer was number 2 in August 2016.

Additionally, Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber contributed vocals to Lil Dicky’s recent track “Earth”. This song made it to number 17 on the Hot 100. Furthermore, if “I Don’t Care” does in fact land at number 2 on the Hot 100, it would mark the third consecutive week a surging song landed in the runner-up spot behind Lil Nas X.
