Kanye West Set for No. 1 Debut on Billboard 200

Kanye West has recently released his new album, Ye. As it appears he is on track to earn his eight number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Industry forecasters suggest Kanye’s new effort which was released via G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam recordings on June 1st, may launch with over 175,000 equivalent album units earned. These numbers are set against the week ending June 7th. If Ye does in fact find itself on top of the chart, this will be Kanye’s eighth number 1.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption. This includes traditional album sales, track or equivalent albums, and streaming equivalent albums. The top 10 of the June 16th dated Billboard 200 chart is scheduled to be revealed on Sunday, June 10th. Additionally, this is likely to report Kanye West and Ye to start at number one. Mr. West has been no stranger to controversy and it is likely that the Pusha T vs. Drake beef has contributed additional interest. However, Kanye reportedly changed his whole album after the most recent TMZ reports about it.

Ye is West’s eighth solo effort, and ninth album overall. Counting his collaborative album with Jay-Z, Watch the Throne contributes to the tally. Kanye West is also no stranger to debuting in the top spot. All of Kanye’s previous efforts, except for his first album, The College Dropout, have debuted at number 1. Most noteworthy, the album peaked at number 2 in 2004. The last time Kanye found himself on the top of the chart was 2016 with his release, The Life of Pablo.

Kanye West vs Drake

As previously referenced, there has been some major beef in hip-hop these past few weeks. Kanye West and his label mate Pusha T have been trading shots with Drake. The beef goes back quite a few years however was recently reignited on the Kanye West produced track, Infrared. In addition, Drake fired back with the “Duppy Freestyle”. However, a few days after Push went and released “The Story of Adidon”, a scathing diss track filled with insults to Drake, his family, and his producer. The situation seemed to have all the makings of a classic rap battle but was allegedly called off by music industry O.G., J Prince. Fans of both artists are patiently waiting to see how this plays out. Something to keep an eye on, for sure. unshaven girls
