Katy Perry Departs American Idol After Seven Seasons

Just over a month ago, Katy Perry bid farewell to American Idol after spending seven seasons as a judge on the popular singing competition. Perry had announced her departure in February, sparking a flurry of speculation about who might take her place for the show’s upcoming 23rd season.

In a recent conversation with Billboard, fellow American Idol judge Luke Bryan mentioned that several artists’ names have been considered as potential replacements. “I’ve said several names. I think P!nk has been in the talks, Miley Cyrus has been in the talks, Meghan Trainor has been in the talks,” Bryan shared.

P!nk has previously expressed reluctance to take on the role, citing her discomfort with the idea of potentially hurting contestants’ feelings. In contrast, Meghan Trainor has been quite vocal about her desire for the position, calling it her “dream job” and revealing that she has actively pursued it by reaching out to key figures in the industry.

The 22nd season of American Idol, which featured judges Bryan, Perry, and Lionel Richie, along with host Ryan Seacrest, concluded on May 19, with Abi Carter being crowned the winner. As for the judging panel for the 23rd season, Bryan noted that Disney has kept details under wraps, and he is still waiting to hear if he and Richie will return.

Katy Perry, meanwhile, is focusing on her music career, with her new single “Woman’s World” set to release on July 11. This track is from her upcoming album, a follow-up to her 2020 album Smile.

As the show prepares for its next chapter, fans eagerly await the announcement of the new judging lineup, which is expected to be revealed later this summer.
