Lover Accounts for 27% of All U.S. Sales in First Week
Taylor Swift is back and with her return she totes massive numbers. The popstress new album Lover comes flying in with 867,000 equivalent album units earned. Furthermore, 679,000 were in album sales. This marks the superstar’s sixth number one. Most noteworthy, this is the biggest week for any album since Taylor’s last release, reputation, in 2017. According to Nielsen Music, the album logged the largest numbers registered for any album in a single week since the last album did 1.238 million units, boasting a cool 1.216 million in album sales. It should be noted of the current 867,000 equivalent album units earned – 13,000 were traditional equivalent album units. Furthermore, 175,000 were in streaming equivalent album units. This translates to 226 million on-demand audio streams earned for the album’s song in its first week.
With Taylor’s release strategy, it is easy to see that Lover was given assistance by the set’s release in four collectible deluxe CD editions. These deluxe editions are facilitated by Target and also pair with dozens of merchandise and digital album bundles sold through Taylor Swift’s website. Additionally, the album also has a standard CD edition that is available at retail, and digital album available via all digital retailers.
Perhaps most interesting, Lover was so big that it accounted for 27% of all U.S. album sales in its first week. However, having one album’s sales account for a large portion of the music industry’s overall sale isn’t groundbreaking. Taylor’s previous album held 29% of the market during its release. Especially relevant, Adele did it with “25” when she accounted for 41% of the market moving 3.38 million in its first week. Another bragging right for Swift is that the new album is already the biggest-selling album of 2019 after only one week on sale. Lady Gaga’s A Star Is Born soundtrack sits in 2nd with 447,000 solid in 2019 through the end of August. hairy girl
