Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ Sets Historic 20th Week at No. 1 on Hot 100

Mariah Carey’s holiday classic All I Want for Christmas Is You has reached a historic milestone, claiming a record-breaking 20th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The achievement establishes the longest reign atop the chart in its 67-year history.

Originally released in 1994, the song surpasses the longest single-release No. 1 runs previously held by Shaboozey’s A Bar Song (Tipsy) in 2024 and Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road featuring Billy Ray Cyrus in 2019.

This marks the second time Carey has held the Hot 100 longevity record. In 1995 and 1996, her collaboration with Boyz II Men, One Sweet Day, led the chart for 16 weeks, a record that stood for more than 23 years before being tied by Despacito by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber in 2017 and later surpassed by Old Town Road. With All I Want for Christmas Is You, Carey reclaims the benchmark with a song released prior to One Sweet Day.

The holiday staple also logs its 77th total week on the Hot 100, tying Dua Lipa’s Levitating as the longest-charting song by a woman artist in the chart’s history.

One week earlier, All I Want for Christmas Is You returned to No. 1 to lead a record-extending seventh holiday season. The song first appeared on Carey’s album Merry Christmas in November 1994. As streaming platforms expanded and holiday music became increasingly prominent across playlists, the track entered the Hot 100’s top 10 for the first time in December 2017 and reached the top five during the 2018 holiday season. Since then, it has topped the chart during the holidays in 2019 for three weeks, 2020 for two weeks, 2021 for three weeks, 2022 for four weeks, 2023 for two weeks and 2024 for four weeks. Seasonal titles remain eligible to re-enter the chart each year.

With the achievement, All I Want for Christmas Is You becomes Carey’s 19th Hot 100 No. 1, the most among solo artists and just one shy of the Beatles’ all-time record of 20. The milestone also makes Carey the first artist to reach No. 1 on the Hot 100 across four distinct decades, spanning the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s.

Meanwhile, holiday favorites continue to dominate the chart, occupying eight of the Hot 100’s top 10 positions this week, including the entire top five.
