Miley Cyrus Tops Rock and Alternative Charts
Miley Cyrus is back with a new album. The album titled “Plastic Hearts” has become her first album to place on Top Rock Albums. The set debuts at the number 1 spot on the chart. With 60,000 units earned in the first week, Plastic Hearts, makes the jump to the top. 20,000 units are directly from album sales. Statistics provided by Nielsen Music. Most noteworthy, Miley is the fourth solo female artist to lead this chart this year. Other women who have led the chart this year are Fiona Apple, Hayley Williams, and Alanis Morissette, respectfully.
Furthermore, among the all genre chart, Plastic Hearts arrives at the number 2 positions. This is the highest Miley Cyrus has appeared since “Bangerz” led the chart in October 2013 for one week. However, since that time, the pop star has tallied albums in the number 5 position. Younger Now in October 2017 and She Is Coming EP in June 2019. Especially relevant, many songs from the album are featured on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. Seven to be exact. The albums title track leads the pack at number 8 and accrued 3.7 million U.S. streams and over 2,000 downloads in tis first week.
Looking at the placements of the other songs we can see that in the number 12 position sits “Night Crawling” featuring Billy Idol. Additionally, “WTF Do I Know” is at number 13, “Gimme What I Want” arrives at number 16, “High” is number 18, and “Bad Karma” is at number 19 which features Joan Jett. In addition to original songs, Miley Cyrus also did a cover of The Cranberries “Zombie”. This is from the album’s digital and streaming version and finds itself at number 26 on the chart.
