As a musician or a band, it is no secret that your success is dictated by your fans. However, continuing to strengthen your fan base online and offline while accruing new fans can be quite the task. Fans are what keeps a musician’s career going and without them it is likely no musician would be where they currently are. The first step is to create a name for your fan base. Think of most major artists – their fan’s have a recognizable name that they identify with. For example, Justin Bieber has “Beliebers”, Beyoncé has the “Bey Hive”, and Lady Gaga has “Little Monsters”. The list goes on, but the point is that if you recognize your fans as their own entity, people will join in the movement.

After you have created a name for your fans, it’s time to give them a place to socialize online. Create a private Facebook group that you and your fans will be able to interact on a personal level. Give your fans contests and giveaways, as well as releasing upcoming information about releases. Do an “Ask Me Anything” type of post and engage! If you continue to be active, you will continue to strengthen your fan base.

In addition to the aforementioned tips, streaming on Twitch is a fun way to interact with fans. Make them feel more involved by including them in your studio sessions, DJ sets, or even behind-the-scenes events. Be sure to promote your streams and shout out your fans so they feel recognized.  Lastly, doing something as simple as meet-and-greats will strengthen your fan base. In-person hangouts can be done anywhere before or after a show. Perhaps backstage, at a local restaurant, or just hanging out within the crowd. Getting to know your fans in person is one of the best ways to organically connect.
