Queen Scores 17th Top 40 Album with “Bohemian Rhapsody” Soundtrack
On the latest Billboard 200 albums charted, dated November 3rd – the A Star Is Born soundtrack claimed a third week on top. The Lady Gaga powered soundtrack earned 109,000 equivalent album units in the week ending October 25, down 24 percent from the previous. According to Nielsen Music, of that sum, 61,000 were in album sales. Down 30 percent as well. Queen has made a comeback and in a strong way.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the week’s most popular albums based on overall consumption. Unit figures combine pure album sales, streaming equivalent, and track equivalent albums. These are how the metrics are made up to determine who will rank where on the chart.
At number 22, Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody (Soundtrack) collects its 17th top 40 album on the Billboard 200. The soundtrack for the movie bows at number 22 with 24,000 equivalent album units earned. Of that sum, 12,000 are traditional sales. Most noteworthy, the companion album to the film of the same name collects familiar highlights from Queen’s career. This includes a handful of tracks from the band’s performance at Live Aid in 1985. Additionally, this is the first time the recordings have been released in audio form.
Other action on the Billboard 200 is as follows:
Dua Lipa hits number 42 with the self-titled reissue on October 19th with bonus tracks. This includes “One Kiss” with Calvin Harris and “Electricity” with Silk City. The album rises to its highest rank since April 28th with 14,000 units, up 122 percent.
Halloween 2018, the soundtrack, debuts at number 60 with 11,000 units. Most noteworthy, 10,000 are in actual album sales. The movie is a direct sequel to the 1978 horror classic of the same name, which was directed and scored by John Carpenter. It’s worth noting he returned to compose the score of the new film, alongside his song Cody Carpenter and godson, Daniel Davies. Halloween did particularly well on vinyl, selling 6,000 copies on the format and debuting at number 2 on the Vinyl Albums chart.
