For the first time in the history of the chart, the entire top six album and nine out of the top 10 are rap albums. Dated July 21^st, the Billboard 200 chart will have featured 9 rap sets in the top 10 most popular albums in the U.S. This chart reflects the most popular albums with the week ending July 12^th. This record rap run in the top 10 has been encouraged by a slim release schedule on July 6^th. Fortunately for the genre there weren’t any major pop, rock, or country albums to rival rap’s dominance with streaming services. The only album in the top 10 that is not a rap set is the pop soundtrack to the movie The Greatest Showman which sits comfortably at number 7.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week using multi-metric consumption. This advanced algorithm includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums, and streaming equivalent albums to determine popularity. Most noteworthy, The Billboard 200 dates back to 1956 when Billboard launches its first regularly published weekly albums chart, Best Selling Popular Albums. This chart would eventually become the Billboard 200.

So, who ranks where on this week’s chart? Leading the way should be no surprise. Drake’s Scorpion sits at number 1 for a second week. Coming in at the number 2 spot is Post Malone’s beerbongs & Bentleys followed by Future’s Beastmode 2 which debuts at number 3. Additionally, XXXtentaction’s “?” is number 4, while Cardi B’s Invasion of Privacy and Juice WRLD’s Goodbye & Good Riddance sit at 5 and 6, respectively. Skipping the Showman soundtrack at number 7 – The Carters “Everything Is Love” ranks at number 8.
