You may or may not be surprised to know that Cardi B and Lil Pump were some of the most searched musicians for quite a bit this year. If you were unsure about hip hop’s choke hold on mainstream music, look no further than Google’s end of the year search results.

Recently, Google made some statistics public about 2017’s most searched keywords in the United States. Musician and bands related searches  held mostly by rappers. Could this reflect curiosity among new artists or were the new artists just more popular than their industry counterparts?

Most Searched Musicians: The List

So, who made it on to the list of the top 10 searched musicians and bands? The top spot belongs to Linkin Park. One would have to attribute the search queries in 2017 to the tragic passing of the lead singer Chester Bennington back in June.

Cardi B holds the number 2 spot. From her smash hit, “Bodak Yellow,” to late night TV. Cardi B was everywhere in 2017. Lil Pump holds the number 3 spot. Number 4 is where you can find Joyner Lucas – his controversial song “I’m Not Racist” blew up in November and garnered him a lot of attention. At number 5 belongs to Jason Aldean. Number 6 most searched musician is little miss “cash me outside”, Danielle Bregoli, aka Bhad Bhabie. Numbers 7-10 show some familiar faces. Post Malone, Aaron Carter, Remy Ma, and Montgomery Gentry – respectively.

Most Searched Songs and Lyrics

As for songs and lyrics, there is no doubt that “Despacito” was the top searched song in 2017. The second most searched song/lyric was “Humble.” By Kendrick Lamar. Bad and Boujee and Look What You Made Me Do followed at 3 and 4. Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” holds the 5th spot. Lil Pump and his song “Gucci Gang” at 6. Havana at 7, Shape of You at 8, Mask Off at 9, and Side to Side at 10. I find it surprising that “Shape of You” was only the 8th most searched song as it was everywhere.
