Atlantic is 2017’s Top Record Label
Atlantic leads as 2017’s top record label, it is also the top label on Billboard 200 according to year-end charts. The top labels are determined by cumulative statistics based on performance on the Billboard 200 albums chart and the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart. Data used to determine the statistics are from December 3rd, 2016 through November 25, 2017. Data registered before and after these dates will count towards their respective years.
Atlantic Records success was powered by successful album releases such as, Ed Sheeran’s Divide. Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic, and Migos No. 1 Culture. Also aiding Atlantic’s success was the continued charting of the original Broadway cast recording of Hamilton: An American Musical.
You may find it unsurprising that Atlantic also reigns as the top Billboard 200 label of 2017. Atlantic has 35 albums ranking in the year-end top Billboard 200 albums recap. This includes four in the top 10.
On the Hot 100 Chart, Atlantic saw major success with Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You”. The smash record sat atop the list for 12 weeks and ranks as the Hot 100 song of the year. Additionally, other major records that charted well from Atlantic are, Bruno Mars – That’s What I Like, Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow,” and Charlie Puth’s “Attention” – to name a few.
Republic’s Reign
Republic Records ranked well among the Hot 100 Roundup. Scoring big records during the 2017 chart year with records like, “Despacito”, Post Malone’s “Rockstar”, Shawn Mendes’ “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back”, and Julia Michaels’ “Issues”. Republic shared promotion credit on a few records. However, Republic’s reign on the Hot 100 in 2017 was so strong that they amassed 25 weeks at number one. Their four chart toppers were: The Weeknd’s “Starboy”, “Despacito”, Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do”, and “Rockstar”.
With the new year rolling in, it will be interesting to see which labels dominate the charts in 2018. A betting man would probably tell you to keep an eye on the previous top charters such as Atlantic and Republic. Although, Interscope Records may be one to watch as well.
