Travis Scott to Receive I Am Hip Hop Award at 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards

Houston’s own Travis Scott is set to receive one of the highest honors in the hip-hop world— the coveted I Am Hip Hop Award at the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards. This recognition, announced by BET on October 1, celebrates Scott’s immense impact on the genre, his visionary artistry, and his ability to continuously push the boundaries of music, culture, and performance.

The BET Hip Hop Awards show, scheduled for October 15, promises to be a momentous occasion as Scott joins the ranks of previous recipients like Marley Marl, Trina, and Nelly, artists who have each left a lasting imprint on the genre. Travis will be honored during the ceremony, which will take place at Drai’s Nightclub in Las Vegas on October 8, with Fat Joe as the night’s host.

Connie Orlando, BET’s EVP of specials, music programming, and music strategy, praised Scott in a recent statement:

From his genre-bending music to his electrifying live performances, Travis Scott has become a cultural icon. His 2023 album Utopia topped the Billboard 200, selling 496,000 units in its first week— the biggest debut for any hip-hop album that year. His live shows, such as his Astroworld tours and now the upcoming One Night Only in Utopia concert at MetLife Stadium, have only further cemented his status as one of the most innovative performers in the industry.

In addition to receiving the I Am Hip Hop Award, Travis Scott is nominated in six categories at this year’s BET Hip Hop Awards, including Song of the Year for his hit “FE!N.” These nominations underscore his continued dominance on the charts in 2024, as he secured three top 10 entries on the Billboard Hot 100 thanks to collaborations with Future, Metro Boomin, and 21 Savage. His 2014 mixtape Days Before Rodeo also made headlines recently by jumping from No. 106 to No. 1 on the Billboard 200, marking the biggest vinyl sales week for a rap album in modern history.
