Although it is currently only available to select creators for the moment – YouTube followed Facebook’s lead by debuting a video premiere feature. This allows viewers to watch a video together as soon as it is published. After Facebook announced that they made their scheduled video premiere feature available to all pages; YouTube responded. With YouTube Premiere, musicians, bands, content creators can debut their videos to their audience at once. As you upload a new video to YouTube, you will have the option of scheduling a “premiere”.  This is a great tool for YouTube marketing and can build anticipation throughout a campaign.

YouTube Premiere: Getting Started

So, now that we know what a YouTube Premiere is – let’s look at how it actually operates. Most noteworthy, a premiere must be done on a desktop. Although your viewers can watch from any device, the setup requires you to be on a desktop computer.

The procedure goes as follows. Start by the standard way that you upload a video to YouTube. However, you are going to select “Scheduled” from the drop down. Proceed with uploading the video. As the video is uploading you must toggle the “YouTube Premiere” switch and select the date and time you wish the video to be published. In addition to these settings, you will enter the title, description, and custom thumbnail per usual. Once the video is done processing, hit “premiere”. This will create a sharable watch page for the video and it is the same page where the video will be viewed later. Feel free to share the page and use your typical YouTube marketing strategies. As the premiere is about to happen – a “tune in” notification will be sent to any opted-in viewers about 30 minutes before the premiere. As it nears the time there will be a countdown.
